TOPIC : RIVER HABITATS

GIVE ANSWERS TO THE FOLLOWING:
1: How will you define rivers?
Ans. The fresh water following along plains is called.
2: What are the main sources of river?
Ans. The main sources of rivers are:
╩ Rain water.
╩ Glaciers.
╩Springs.
3: From where does river start?

Ans. Rivers start from a highest point such as hill or a mountain.
4:  Almost all of the rivers have 3 stages during their journey. Can you name them?
Ans. The three stages are,
╩ First stage.
╩Middle stage.
╩ Final stage:
5: What characteristics do we observe about first stage river water?
Ans. First stage river water is:
╩ Fast flowing,
╩ Often with vertical stream.
╩ Clear.
╩ Cold.
6: There is less chance of survival of plants and animals in first stage river water. Why?
Ans. Fast flowing river water at first stage has enough power or force to wash plants and animals away, therefore it is so. Yet many organisms may swim against the strong water current, such as:
╩ Trout.
╩ Mountain Barbel.
╩ Water shrimps.
╩ Cray fish.
7:  What characteristics do we observe about Middle Stage river water?
Ans.  Middle stage river water is;
╩Slow flowing.
╩Winded and flat route.
╩Muddy.
╩Slightly warm.
8:  Middle stage river water is habitat of many organisms.  Justify.
Ans. Many plants grow in the bed. Many insects live there. Fishes such as palla and perch also live there. Moorhens, coots and swans feed on these water plants and animals.
8: What characteristics do we observe about Final stage river water?
Ans.  It is the stage when river ends its journey. It is called Mouth of river. It is the place when fresh river water meet the salty sea water.
9: What organisms do survive in the final stage river  water?

 Ans. Mud and sand carried by river water form marshes. Shell fish, shrimps and worms survive in this mud and become food of sea shore birds. Fishflounder, mullecarp and catfish may survive in the mixture of sea and river water.
