TOPIC: LIFE IN A FOREST

GIVE ANSWERS TO THE FOLLOWING:
1: How will you define forest?
Ans. A collection of trees is called forest. It also includes plants growing in layers, shrubs, herbaceous plants, ferns, mosses and fungi.
2: How do animals get advantage from forest?
Ans. Forest is a source of food and shelter for animals.
3: What types of trees do we observe in a forest?

Ans.  Basic kinds of trees in a forest are;
♣Deciduous trees
They lose their trees in autumn. 
They include oak, almond, shisham, mango, peepal and banyan.
♣Evergreen trees
They remain green throughout year.                                                                                       They include pine, yew, fir, deodar and spruce.
4: How will you show layer distribution in a forest?
Ans. This layer distribution is as follow;
                LAYERS
             CONSIST OF
Tree Layer
It consists of deciduous, evergreen or both.
Shrub Layer
It consists of shrubs and small trees.
Herb Layer
It consists of herbaceous plants and ferns.
Forest Floor
Forest floor contains rotting logs and dead logs and simple plants like lichen, mosses and liverworts.

5: Why do a few shrubs and herbs are found in evergreen trees forest?
Ans.  A few herbs and shrubs grow beneath the evergreen trees because less light can reach to ground and soil is less fertile. While deciduous trees do provide suitable conditions for herbs and shrubs to grow.
6: Name some woodland animals. How do trees are helpful to them?
Ans.  WOODLAND ANIMALS and THE ADVANTAGE THEY DO OBTAIN
Tits , Warblers , Woodpeckers
Feed on leaves eating insects and caterpillars.
Owls , Hawks
Nest in taller trees.

7: What happens to fallen parts of trees?
Ans.  Fallen leaves, trunks, branches and twigs of the trees are eaten and decayed and add mineral salts by woodlice, millipedes, earthworms, bacteria and fungi found in the forest floor
