TOPIC: PLANTS GROUPS

1: On what basis plants are classified?
Ans. Plants are classified on the basis of seeds.
Two major groups are;
1)    Seed plants.
2)    Seedless plants.
2: How are seed plants are sub grouped?
Ans.  Seed plants are sub grouped as;
1)    Seeds are enclosed in flower or fruit
Rice plants, sunflower, tulip etc.
2)     Naked seeds in a cone shape.                               
Pine, spruce, fir, deodar and yew trees.
3: How does new generation take place in seed plants?
Ans. New generation take place through seeds in seed plants.
4: How does new generation take place in seedless plants?
Ans. New generation take place through dust-like spores in plants. These plants include ferns, mosses, liverworts and algae or seaweed.
5: How are flowering plants classified?
Ans. Flowering plants are classified on the number of cotyledon in their seeds;
♣ Dicots. Have two cotyledons in their seeds.                                                        Fruits, walnuts, carrots, legumes, mustards etc.
♣ Monocots. Have one cotyledon in their seeds. Grasses, lilies, orchids, palms etc.
6: Give main features of ferns?
Ans.     ♣ Live on damp places.
            ♣ Have leaves or fronds made of many small leaflets.
            ♣ Have spores on the underside of their leaves.
7: Give main features of liverworts?
Ans.      ♣ Simple green plants.
             ♣ Live on moist places.
             ♣ Ribbon-like or leafy shape.
   ♣ Have spores.
8: Give main features of mosses?
Ans.       ♣ Simple green plants.
              ♣ Live on moist places.
              ♣ Leaf –like scales.
              ♣ Have spores.
9: Give main features of algae?
Ans.       ♣ Live every where provided with water, light and mineral salts.
              ♣ Smallest is single celled microscopic.

              ♣ Largest is seaweed live in sea water
