A BIG RAILWAY STATION
The Lahore railway station is perhaps, the biggest in Pakistan. It
extends over an area of nearly three square miles. It has nine platforms and
several
dining and waiting rooms. There are also scores of stalls at which one
can buy anything one likes. Its middle block consists of the enquiry office,
and the booking and the luggage offices for upper-class passengers. In front of
it there are Tonga and taxi stands. Numberless coolies are seen sitting on the footpath
outside the sanitary staff takes great pains to keep the station as neat and
clean as possible. A good number of high class hotels have recently been built
in front of it. They are really a boon for the travelling public and business
men who want to stay near it. It is a pity that its retiring rooms at big
stations like Lahore and Rawalpindi are seldom available for genuine
upper-class passengers.
