HOW TO
MEND A PENCIL
I hold the pencil in my left hand and place one of its ends along my index
finger. I hold it fast with the rest of my fingers and press it with my thumb.
Then I begin to cut the wood, bit by bit, with a sharp pen knife. I turn the
pencil round and round to cut it on all sides. I go on cutting it, till the
lead appears. Then I become very cautious. I cut the lead to a fine point and
pencil is ready for use.
